6 Signs It’s Time to Replace Your Bathtub

The bathroom is one of the most used areas in your home, and even though it may seem sturdy, this constant use combined with natural corrosion from water over time makes it susceptible to leaks and mold.

The bathtub is one key area that you’ll want to keep in tip-top shape, but when it comes to replacing an entire tub, things are definitely not simple, or cheap.

Have you noticed unusual coloring, chipping or wear in and around the bathtub or faucet? If you’re starting to wonder if replacement parts are needed or if it’s time to swap out the whole thing for a brand new gleaming tub, read on for more information.

1 – Staining

Old bathtubs sometimes have permanent stains, it’s true. And while this is not an immediate hazard, it can indicate wear on the enamel. Rust stains, however, are a bigger problem. If you have serious rust corrosion on any part of your bathtub, it’s time for a replacement part.

2 – Leaks

Do you see a puddle of water outside the tub or shower after you drain it? How about drips and drops around the fixture? The water should be flowing straight from faucet to the bath and not getting anywhere else. Anything else indicates a poor seal and can cause mold and further damage.

3 – Slow Water Pressure or Drainage

If you’ve noticed that the water coming out of your tub is getting slower and slower, this could be a sign of corroded pipes. Standing water in a shower could indicate a clog that is easily fixed, but if you clear out debris and the water still isn’t draining, this can mean a serious problem with the plumbing.

4 – Old Hardware

It’s not hard to tell when bathroom hardware gets old–it just starts to look downright bad. Chips, rust, and other signs of age and wear mean that it’s time for an upgrade, not only because they look bad, but because getting little pieces of metal into your system when bathing or showering can be dangerous.

5 – Poor Water Quality

Is your water a strange color or even foul-smelling? Weird water happens naturally on occasion, especially in older buildings, but if the problem persists, there could be something wrong with the pipes or water heater.

6 – Mould

If you’re noticing mould build up regularly throughout the bathroom, this is an indication of faulty or worn sealing, and it likely means that you should get a new bathroom upgrade. If the leak is inaccessible, it’s best to call a professional immediately as mould can not only damage other parts of your house, it can be a health hazard.
